Looking Good & Feeling Good-Some Tips

I read something interesting about men this week:

In making a first impression with men, women have about 15 minutes. Women, on the other hand, take about an hour to make up their minds about guys.

Seems true. Larry says he knew after just a few minutes after I “flitted in” to the coffee shop that I was someone he wanted to get to know better. (And that he has certainly done!)

We all know how visual men are. We can either hate them for this, or accept it. I choose the latter because, after all, it’s really not their choice…it’s their nature. They really can’t help it.

Men were “made” to be able to access a situation very quickly. After all, that’s how they kept the women and children in their tribe safe and fed, right? It’s what made them good hunters, able to respond quickly and deliberately when their prey was in sight.

So, as a woman who is single and looking for love (or at least some fun) I recommend that you accept and even enjoy the fact that men are visual creatures who quickly know what they are attracted to.

So how can you embrace this knowledge and use it to make the most of your 15 minutes? By getting your sh*t together when it comes to the first impression you make.

Yes, I’m talking about looking healthy and paying attention to your clothes, hair and make-up. But there’s more to what a man sees when he meets you. He sees your body language and how you carry yourself. He sees your smile, where your attention is placed and how you receive him with your eyes.

Men really aren’t as clueless as you may think. No matter how many layers of makeup you have on, most men can see how you feel about yourself and about him.

Today I thought I’d share some style, hair and fashion blogs especially for women over 40 that may inspire you to reenergize, reimagine or just fine tune your already rockin’ style. These aren’t about being trendy. They’re about getting some kind of style that makes you feel confident and beautiful. I also share some places to go to find inspiration and community. (Other than here, of course.)

After all, men aside, don’t you just feel better when you look good, feel energized about life? I know I do!

This list of fashion, style and life-style blogs are written for us over-40 gals. They were selected by my assistant, Nancy, who considers herself a style conscious, fashion loving over-50 year old still” happening” kinda gal. There is a little something for everyone. Enjoy!
